Is It Necessary To Have Anti-spyware And Anti-virus Software With Real-time Detection?

At present I have Spyware Doctor with real-time protection for spyware, but no real-time anti-virus program. Am using Micro Trend’s free scan for viruses. It does not have real-time protection. Thanks!
